Good day, Just got a hold of a mint condition 1971 Evinrude 6 hp. Mounted it on a Lund 12 footer alu boat. I presume the prop on it is not the original. It's a 3 blades 8 1/4 X 5 pitch composite prop and shows damage from hitting bottom. I wish to replace it. Runs good with 2 persons onboard. Obviously wont plane. I would like to know what is the standard size prop + splines.
Thank you.

The motor came with a 8" X 7 1/4" prop.
Properly set up with a new prop the motor could make 12-14 mph and might plane easily.
You may need a tiller extension to get you in the middle seat.

That would be how many blades and how many splines ? Tx

If you look here at iboats props for your 71, 6 hp Evinrude you will find the 8 X 7 1/4 Is a 2 blade, non thru hub,pin drive prop.
There are 2 larger sizes in a 3 blade but you need the do a test run with a 8 X 7 1/4. Get us at least the gps speed.
We may be able to tell if you need a change.

Considering I am getting good results with a 3 blades 8 1/4 X 5 I would think getting the lowers pitch should be a wise move. I ll have a look .. tx

If its not planing your not getting good results.? At least get your speed by gps with the 5" prop, before making a decision.
