Re: What is the best electric fuel pump to work on my 97 bayliner trophy?
I do not have a preference or recommendation for a brand other then it must be certified for Marine use.
I will ask if you have plans to wire it such that it can only run when the engine is running or while cranking the engine. This is a safety issue for marine installations. If you do not have such plans now I suggest you not install any electric fuel pump until you research some options and obtain the necessary components to install and wire in along with the fuel pump.
Typical installs use an oil pressure safety switch installed on the engine. This switch only closes when it senses enough oil pressure, usually 5psi or so. The main power supply wire of sufficient gauge is run from a 12v ignition power source to one terminal on this switch and then run from the other terminal to the fuel pump. Along with this there must be a bypass that will get power only when the ignition switch is in Start. This can be a long wire of sufficient gauge running all the way from that switch, or can be run from the starter solenoid where the igniton switch Start wire connects. Some opt for a momentary push button or spring loaded lever type switch that the operator must hold in for a few seconds to allow the pump to run and fill the carb bowl before starting, just getting enough fuel in so the engine will start and run for a few seconds (long enough to build oil pressure so the oil pressure switch will close).
