First I have got to say how awesome this site is and how helpful the people on here can be. With that said I have got a 1975 johnson that I rebuilt the lower end and did some work to the power head. It runs like top and I have it on a 1982 16ft aluminum bass tracker 3 I am not sure of the pitch of the current prop as I can not find any numbers on it. I was wondering what you guys thought might be the best prop for this situation. I am trying to get the best of both worlds power and economy. Thanks in advance. Ed

Wish it were that simple. You need to gather some information in order to make a prop selection which will give you the desired results. Minimal information is engine top rpm range, or manufacurers recommend range. What prop pitch, diameter and material. The thing you want is to prop the engine so that at Wide Open Throttle your engine runs at the recommended speed. This will give you best power and economy. When the engine is 'geared' correctly it will become most efficent. Stainless steel props will offer better efficency due to the thickness of material being less for the same strength. Lots of luck and get back with the numbers. Remove your current prop and look inside both ends you will find identifying numbers.
