What is the correct WOT RPM for an 86 Mercruiser 230?

He all....brand new boat owner and taking my new (to me) boat out for the first time this afternoon. What is the correct WOT RPM for my Mercruiser 230 V8? Its a 1986 year model.

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,..... What's the 230,..??

350 with a 2bbl. carb,..?? 4400/ 4600 rpms at Wot...

305, 4bbl. carb, 4400/ 4800 at Wot...

either way, it's a SBC,... she's Ok to 4800 rpms anyways...

I don't know which carb it has......how would I check?

I think its a GM 305 but how would I know?

Are you saying that my motor is the 5.0lx? How do I check that?

Post the Merc serial number of your engine. Should be a tag just above the starter where the flywheel cover bolts onto the block.

The 5.0LX and the 230 are the same engine, the 5.0LX is just the model name of the 88-95 version. 5.0 Eng with a 4 bbl carb.
