Every time I use a pool Vacuum, It works for about 20 minutes, then looses suction.
Sometimes I just have to clean out the filter, other times the pump just stops working.

I know sucking air thru the hose at first will mess with the pump, but you just vent the air out of the filter.

Why won't a vacuum work for more than 20 minutes?

Maybe just maybe all the stuff you happen to be vacuuming up is clogging the filter. I take it this is the same pool you are cleaning all of the algae out of?

yes it is the same pool.
But the filter is emty inside. I think it is one of those filters you put the powder in.

I took the top off, and it was clean in the bottom.

when it is on waste, the filter is not involved right?

There are no grids? Where is the water going? Back into the pool? What is catching the algae?

Somehow, your pump is losing its prime. You have a clear plastic lid on the basket strainer right before the pump that you can look into?

yea, and that keeps water in it, but it is about an inch below the top.

the intake pipe is putting water into the basket.

you think i have a de filter?

are the grids in the bottom of the filter?

the old owners had a bag of "rare earth" there.

If you have a de filter or any filter for that matter, and you took the lid off the filter off and were not sure if grids were in there...you don't have grids in there. :)

You may have a leak in the hose that creates a problem only when its above the surface.

If it works for twenty minutes it should work the entire time.

Actually if you're pumping the water into the yard, its dropping the water level and the skimmer is sucking air through the valve (if it has one) or a fitting.
