I have an '82 55hp 'rude "commercial" powerhead witha 50hp lower unit on it. Haven't heard of anyone else on this board with one. What is the difference between this commercial and a domestic motor? Is it a looper or crossflow? Just curious about it. Any thoughts on this motor would be appreciated. I'm a fishing freak and don't do much WOT, just enough to burn off the carbon on the way home.

Basically, it's a no frills looper engine with a rewind starter. Without looking up all the spec's, I don't know about gear ratio, and rpm range.

Hi Jim
Maybe we can get Joe Reeves or one of the other fellows To give us the real skinny on the commercial model deal. I own Evin super10, not decaled 9.9. I have also repaired and serviced many other commercial models. As R. Johnson states they are a no frills unit. they are usually a manual type motor. Manual start, prime, tilt, tiller steer, etc. I have found that many differnt size commercial motors share a lot of the same style lower units. They also share a lot of the same service parts, water pumps, etc. Sort of a one size fits all kind of deal. I imagine this would be handy for a resort owner or a marine company that had a fleet of motors to maintain. I have also found obtaining parts can be a challenge at times. Aparently all dealers parts people don't have commercial info in there computers. There for they will tell you they don't have the parts or get you the wrong parts. They have the parts and they can get the parts, they just don't know it.

Some do have a "beefier" lower than the recreational brother. Some have a slightly different cylinder head but many of the main components are the same.

Good luck!
