Hi folks

mine is a glastron 15 feet, 75 hp 2 cycle engine. the boat with the engine is about 600 kg. with staff it may reach 900 kg (with 4 people)
In order not to overweight on my boat i try to choose the lightest engine that would still get me to shore in case the main outboard is not working. i won't be needing it for anything else.

I need the auxilliary for fishing in the mediterranean sea, not in a calm lake! but usually i won't be going home against winds.
i can reach up to 8 miles a way from shore.

would a 4-5 hp 2 cycle be too small for this?

also, here we have a cheap new auxilliary motors called tohatsu. from their price they seem not that high quality. will anew tohatsu be enough for this purpose?

will love getting your opinion

thanks in davance

My last boat was similar in size and weight (also with a 75) and I ran a 6 HP 2-cycle with excellent performance. Prior to that I used a 9.9 on the same boat. I wouldn't go less than 6.

Tohatsu makes all the small motors for Mercury, and Nissan.
The quality is good, same as a Mercury, just with a different cover and decals.

6, 8, or 9.9 hp will get you home.

If going for a 2 strokes Tohatsu, 6-8-9.8 are same size, weight and 170CC, go straight for the 9.8 which is the top model, should cost tad more tan 6-8.

If going for a 4 strokes, 4-5-6 are same brothers with 123 CC and 8-9.8 same brothers with 210CC. You decide!!

Happy Boating
