Merc's recommondation for that year from the sales literature 4800 - 5300. Some on this board will say a lot more, but that is what the manufacturer said.

my service manual and the merc dealer both stated that my 1976 1150 should run 5000-5500rpm...

if you really want an information overload, follow either me or ed over to the INLINE forums in microsoft outlook.... there is an online discussion group (newsgroup) dedicated to inline 6's care and feeding!
