30 hp 1995 Johnson. Noticed on left side of motor if looking at it from behind the boat there is a tiny hole that is in front of a vent on the lower unit towards the front of the engine. When I tiled the engine up a few drops of normal water came out of it. It looks like the hole belongs there, but what the be I is it and what is that vent?

I think you might be talking about the drain for the exhaust housing. Normal for water to come out when you pull the boat out of the water.

Yah, it's not the plugs where you out gear oil. Those are screwed in tight. There's a vent (exhaust I presume) but a few inches in front of that there is this spot with like white seal that drains water out of it when I lifted the motor vertically.

It's put in there so the L/U won't freeze and bust when you live "UP NORT" where it's cold in the winter.

the location correct? It's about 3 inches in front of vent on lower unit on left side of Johnson. It looks like there is a caulk or whitish sealant inside the hole.

It successfully drained a little water after I shifted the engine upward. I had the engine down and put it upright completely. It makes sense that it belongs there. Is say it's about the width of a golf tee

My outboard guru told me that some have holes there to push water into the exhaust at higher speeds, supposed to help cool the prop hub.
He is an OMC trained technician whatever that means.
