Hey All //

Was looking to get the name/part number for my fuel/water separator when I noticed this laying on the bottom of my engine bay compartment. It's probably 1.5" long?maybe 3/8" in diameter.

Engine: 5.0l v8 MerCruiser I/O | 1991 Bayliner 2050 Capri

I'm wondering if this is the culprit leading to my loss of power / sputtering?that I thought was a gas issue. Boat runs flawlessly. HOWEVER?sometimes I can hear a change in the engine, and it feels like somebody has a rubberband tied to the boat and is slightly holding it back. This comes and goes randomly.

Thought at first it was bad gas. Ran a bottle of SeaFoam through it?next I'm changing my fuel/water separator. That's when I saw this:

Any ideas?photo 5-1.jpgphoto 4-2.jpgphoto 3-2.jpgphoto 2-2.jpg

Re: What is this part?

It looks like a vent connector to one of the valve covers. There should be two hoses coming from the flame arrestor to the valve covers. They vent the covers. Some hoses have an actual PVC valve at the end and some just have a hollow metal or plastic connector. Perhaps a mechanic dropped this one when replacing it or a hose and simply left it in the bilge rather than climbing down to find it. Hy

Thanks for the reply. I had to go check for myself and looked at the flame arrestor. It has two hoses coming from both sides?none of which had that part. They were both securely connected.

Back to the drawing board.

Thanks for the help!

Re: What is this part?

Appears to be a wire grommet connector to waterproof a wire connection. I use them allot when installing radio equipment. I bet it was dropped.

Interesting. Could of been?found it odd that it would just be laying there. No rips, tears or nothing. I could check the area where my depth finder is mounted. But I agree with you?probably dropped.

Just paranoid.

Thanks all!
