What is this Part?

I posted on another forum with little to no response, so here goes.

1999 Mercury 175 EFI. I found a broken part and don't know what it is. It's a little Elbow shaped plug looking thing. From what I can see there are 4 of them. One at the top and bottom of each side of the Block. I'm so happy that the one that is broken is behind a mountain of important looking electrical connections )
I currently have a pipe cleaner stuffed in there so I don't lose the spot. What is the purpose of this plug?

Re: What is this Part?

That elbow is part of the balance line system of the motor. It help keep the block at the same pressure on all the cylinders , and at times runs to the carbs venting any unused fuel. Defiantly replace it ASAP before running the motor. JMO

Re: What is this Part?

hmmm. All 4 seem to be capped off like the one in photo #2. They are not connected to any hoses, just simply screwed into the block plugging the tiny holes. I thought they might be for bleeding purposes. I definitely need to replace it, but I can't find what it's even called.
Serial # is 0G868708 if that helps anyone in identifying it. Thanks!

I'm afraid to remove any of the other ones to see exactly how it may have broken. Like I said, it's behind all the wiring nightmare...

On carbureted engines, hoses hook to the small nipples as they are used to recirculate unburnt fuel in intake to a cylinder to be burnt off. A EFI motor does not use them and a small vacuum cap is installed to cap off nipple(5). These can be purchased at a auto parts house also or OEM part# is 22-15026

Re: What is this Part?

Thank You. So, they are just to plug a hole in the block that would otherwise be used by a non EFI motor?

What Fb says but tha fun part is gettin' tha piece outta tha block (if its still in there, which more than likely it is) without messin' up. I'm sure ya gonna get all kinds a ways ta do it but not from me............GL

BTW. That pipe cleaner might act like a "primer cord".............

Re: What is this Part?

Are you saying that the fitting could have broken off and fell inside the block and is now rolling around in the cylinder?

No. they are pressed in and tha other part is, more than likely, still in tha little hole. It has to come out for tha fitting to be replaced.......

Re: What is this Part?

That would be a better scenario. I would just seal it off. Time to put on the work pants :)

Re: What is this Part?

Bleed line ports. The EFI motors pull the puddled fuel back into the VST to use again. You can plumb the EFI motors bleed lines like a carb motor for all the difference it makes. If you remove the VST completely thats one way to do it. In any case if its broken off at the cylinder just slap some JB weld over the hole. Anything that broke off is probably long gone. If you install the clear yellow fuel lines as bleed hoses you'll see how much fuel puddles at the reeds and gets sucked back into the VST. Its quite a bit.

Re: What is this Part?

Its not that bad. You take off the two bolts that attach the plate to the block and swing the whole thing out of the way.

Re: What is this Part?

Haha, from what I saw, there were several bolts into the block. So many I couldn't tell if they all were holding the plate, which is what it looked like. I JB welded the hole. Hopefully that takes care of that thing that was "Not on the List" Thanks...

Nah, Just two. The ones with the isolators at the 12 o'clock and 8 o'clock positions. You dont have to undo the wires or anything like that. Just the two bolts swing the plate out of the way to get to the bibs. Not that it matters now.
