What is this thing?

What is this thing mounted on the transom below the water line, next to the depth finder transducer.I just discovered that it is is not terminated at the other end.

The other end of the wire has no connector

That is a thermister aka temperature probe.

Hmm. Must be from a previous fish finder. Does it hurt anything to leave there?

as long as the screws are sealed, no.
