And are there supposed to be three wires going to it? I don't see another wire that would have broken off just laying about anywhere.

Second question, is the small black item with two posts a fuse?

Thanks for the pointers!

I agree, it looks like a circuit breaker and may be self resetting on not... :noidea: But either way, it does need cleaned especially the terminals should be clean shiny metal for it to work properly. In fact all the terminals need cleaned to shiny metal to work properly. That is the cause of so many electrical problems with boats...corrosion!

First pic, item in background just to the left of the battery with 3 wires..........Diode favored battery isolator and yes, 3 wires is correct.

I'm very grateful for the responses. I'vebeentroubleshooting and I'm making some progress here. Pretty sure first pic is a leftover from when the boat originated as a 24v trolling motor setup; it has a 12v now. The second pic is definitely a circuit breaker, but one I had never seen before (I'm just getting into boats). That one is shot, internal failure as well as corrosion, but the one that was the problem just needed to be reset.
Follow up question: the current battery arrangement is depicted in the new attachment. Can I expect my trolling motor battery to be charged when the motor is running? The diodes in the isolator check good, I just don't know if it will get any juice in the current configuration. (I don't yet have a water clamp to be able to run the motor at home and test for voltage. )

No, well yes, it'll charge, BUT your diodes were in wardsback ;) I fixed them for you........you're now good to go

Lol, thanks. Forgive me, it's been 10 years since I've read a schematic. Good to know it'll still charge the second battery though.

That is not how it is supposed to be wired. The trolling motor will discharge the start battery with this configuration

You connect the alternator output to the input terminal of the isolator.
