Does anyone know what this togle switch on top of my key start if for? I switch it and nothing seems to happen. It is spring loaded so I can switch it, and it immediately returns to the center position. Tho motor is a 1966 80HP Johnson Super Sea-Horse Electromatic
pvisser,

Right off hand, I'd say it was for the choke.

Can you here the choke solonoid click when you engage the switch?

If not, it's either not connected, or the switch was meant for something else, such as power tilt.

now that you mention it, the engine does have an electric choke, that I have to manually turn off once the engine has started. I hear nothing when the switch is toggled..

It doesnt look factory to me- it was an after-thought perhaps? I would say for an electric choke as well but perhaps a horn? I would just trace the wires if u can get into it.

I say it doesnt look factory because it is mounted right in the middle of the logo- something I would think would be avoided by a manafacturer.
-J

That looks like it may be the engine trailering switch? Or disco'd choke? Follow the wire and see where it goes.

It's an older style choke switch from OMC that had been mounted on the key switch cover. Either the wires are not hooked up or the choke solenoid is bad.

If it has a electric choke that you have to turn off manually, how does it get turned on in the first place?

Does it activate when you turn the key on?

I would think with the placement of this toggle switch, it was meant for a choke.

Maybe it is stuck in the on position and when you turn the key on, it is activating the choke but not turning it off.

That might be a reason you do not hear any clicking.
