Thought I would repost this video clip just to get some more input from people. Have gotten a few answers, anywhere from gimbal bearing to impellar to bearing on the accessory drive.

Boat makes the noise in neutral, forward and reverse. Doesnt get any worse if I turn the steering wheel back and forth. Really hoping its not a gimbal bearing. If its in neutral and the sound is still there, wouldnt that eliminate the gimbal bearing?? Thanks!

Re: What is this weird engine sound?

Can you listen to it up close and determine if the sound is coming from the back of the engine or the front? If from the back, I would pull the outdrive and run it and see if the sound goes away.
If it sounds like the front, start by spraying water (spray bottle, not a hose) on the pulleys and belt and see if the sound changes. If that doesn't work, pull the belt off and turn each unit and see if there is a problem with each item.

Bout to go investigate. Have been gone for a week but I did what I could before I left. Checked the prop and the hub, it is good. power steering is good. Now going to look and see if I can pinpoint the sound and check the belt. See if its worse when I turn the wheel or raise and lower the outdrive.

Use a mechanic's stethoscope to pinpoint the source.

Re: What is this weird engine sound?

Well I went out and fired up the boat and I could not duplicate that same sound. Raised and lowered trim, forward neutral and reverse, and still nothing. All the fluids are good. I might just take it out and get it warmed up and see if its starts to do it again.

I want to lube the engine coupler because thats the only zerk I havent got to since I got the boat. In the manual it calls for "engine coupler and spline grease". Can I substitute that for a grease I have like "u joint and gimbal bearing" or 2-4-C w teflon?? Thanks

No, you really should not use any other grease there but the "engine coupler and spline grease" That is if you want to do it right, And I can tell you like to do things right judging by all your other post anyways. ;):)
