What is this wire / 1990evinrude 200 hp

I just bought an engine and it has a white with black stripe wire coming out of the head next to the tan heat sensor wire .the control box has the same wht/blk wire. They were not hook up. don't know if i should hook them or not. <br /> Thanks Bill

They activate quik-start. I don't know why they would be unhooked, but I would look into it. I am not sure of just how this would effect the timing.

Quik-start features and RPM limit that will cancel quik-start above 1100 RPM. Disconnecting the black-white wire will leave the engine in the advaced state. I'm not sure if this would also canceal the RPM limit. It is certainly something that I would correct.

the advance for quick start is shut off above 1100 or so by the pack or by engine temp as sensed from the head sensor blk/white wire. if dissconected it may give a high or erattic idle but above 1100 it wont affect anything. the power coils on the stator power up the quick start and other portions of the pack. the speed limiting overheat warning also known as SLOW is controled by the tan wire going to the pack. if engine speed is above 2500 and it detects overheat it will cause a severe miss and limit RPM to a max of 2500. sometimes even lower. last sensor I bought was about 70 dollars but they do fail occasionally.

ohh<br /> and double check that wire at the controls. in 1990 the wire was blk/yellow. if you hook the blk/yellow with the blk/wht bad things will happen to your power pack. it will back feed about 200V to it. it may be a left over from the emergency stop swtch being removed. the 1990 red plug motors used blk/yellow in the harness at the switch. the modular from about 95 used a blk/wht for kill and at the engine for quick start.<br /> gets confusing but thats why they made diagrams
