What is this?

This is in the bilge of my 2003 glastron sx 195, near the drain plug. It has a wiring harness coming from it that just terminated and is unused. What is it?

Transducer for your depth gauge. If the gauge is working, then there is another transducer down there somewhere to replace this bad one.

Thank you Gaboater. The boat came equipped with a Lawrence lst3800 depth gauge in which the sensor is located outside the boat. Wonder why glastron didn’t just use the stock one here instead of the one on the outside of the boat? The one in the bottom isn’t connected to anything, the harness is just wrapped up and zip tied into the factory wiring.

the one glued into the bottom of your bilge is the original factory transducer for the gauge

the one on the back of the boat was most likely added later

my guess, the one in the bilge quit working

the original is a thru hull transducer and is most likely glassed or glued in place that must have crapped out. Someone replaced it with a transom mounter xducer.

Because a PO took the easy way out and didn't want to crawl under the motor to knock the bad one off and added a transom mounted transducer. Can't say I blame him with the way some motors are hard to work around.

It is glassed in place, but it looks like it was never used. In the event that it was and crapped out, I’m assuming it can’t be replaced easily?

It is epoxied to the hull, but it can be removed. But usually the motor has to come out and that's the issue.

It was used and working when Glastron built her back in 2003.

I would not even worry about replacing it, the technology is so much better now that it was just a few years ago, better technology, less cost and don't have to tear your boat apart.
