Hi, I have 1983 15 HP Mariner made by Yamaha. Electric start.
It is tiller , but has all hookup "things" for remote controls on it already.

If I need to find controls, will it be Mercury or Yamaha ones?
This is my first non-OMC motor, so need help.

Thanks

Any remote control box should work well but surely will need to "adapt" the gear and throttle cables ends to hook well on the motor ? Seen different motor brands installations with non OEM control boxes.

Happy Boating

Hi,

I tried in Yamaha forum without luck, so now trying it here.
This is 1983 Mariner 15HP motor made by Yamaha.
It came with brackets for remote hookup.
What kind of cables\tips for throtle\gearshift does it take?

Please help.

Thanks.

Well of course you will need the proper throttle ends and even the shift ends to match this engine. However, the steering is a different issue. Seem this engine doesn't use a tilt tube as most OB engine use. So you will have to install something to allow you to use a typical steering cable setup. I have the same issues and bought this from EzyGlide company. That metal bracket on the front of the engine can be removed when you install this mount.
