Hello everybody. I have this harness plug on my boat and I'm wondering what kind of motor it would go to? Any ideas of what years/models/manufacturer? Thanks!IMG_0981.jpg

x2 on Merc. Late 60's to '80s. My guess is probably closer to the 1970s.

In the background there is an old merc tower of power motor and it has male pins and needs a female plug. All the merc tower of power harnesses I've seen female plugs. I would like to get a new motor for this boat that has the same controls but can't seem to find anything that matches.

If Im not mistaken the motor in the back round would be a pre 79, I believe they had the male plug half on the motor outside on the cowling in 80 they switched around and the harness joined inside the cowling with the male half belonging to the controller half.

The Quicksilver Commander 2000 and 3000 use an 8 pin connector and I used the 2000 on my '89 6 cyl engine. The 2000 is the external side mount and the 3000 is the internal where most of it is behind the bulkhead along with the wiring....looks pretty but I don't like the way it works. I have used both controls with my 2002 90 hp triple. Control harness is male. Wire colors are:

Pin 1 Black/Yellow stripe....fuel enrichment solenoid power....aka choke
Pin 2 Purple....Switched 12v from Ignition switch
Pin 3 Tan/Lt. Blue stripe.... OT or oil warning wire
Pin 4 Black....Engine ground, batt neg.
Pin 5 Grey....Tach signal input
Pin 6 Yellow/Black stripe..... engine kill
Pin 7 Yellow/Red....starter solenoid power
Pin 8 (center wire) Red.....battery voltage to control box.

Remembering the old days, the connector on the old design Mercs that plugged into the side of the engine was very large, like an 1 1/2 inches in dia. or more. The connector described above is more like the size of a quarter dollar or slightly larger.

HTH,
Mark

Gee, Didn't you like the answers you received in the other identical posting? I thought it was agreed that it was from a Merc from the late 80s or newer.

I did and was very grateful. After finding out it was not a Johnson or Evinrude I came to the Merc pros to see if they could narrow it down more as to years and models it would fit. I'm sorry if you didn't feel I was grateful for other responses in the Johnson Evinrude forums.

Texasmark and tripleB thanks for the detailed info. Looks like I'll be parts hunting again.

That plug looks like the one on my '93 Merc.

The male plug of the size is what is on my commander control and the female is on a 1984 50hp Merc. My 1987 70HP Merc is the same also. JMO
