Re: What kind of controller plug is this? Johnson? Evinrude? Mercury?
The Quicksilver Commander 2000 and 3000 use an 8 pin connector and I used the 2000 on my '89 6 cyl engine. The 2000 is the external side mount and the 3000 is the internal where most of it is behind the bulkhead along with the wiring....looks pretty but I don't like the way it works. I have used both controls with my 2002 90 hp triple. Control harness is male. Wire colors are:
Pin 1 Black/Yellow stripe....fuel enrichment solenoid power....aka choke
Pin 2 Purple....Switched 12v from Ignition switch
Pin 3 Tan/Lt. Blue stripe.... OT or oil warning wire
Pin 4 Black....Engine ground, batt neg.
Pin 5 Grey....Tach signal input
Pin 6 Yellow/Black stripe..... engine kill
Pin 7 Yellow/Red....starter solenoid power
Pin 8 (center wire) Red.....battery voltage to control box.
Remembering the old days, the connector on the old design Mercs that plugged into the side of the engine was very large, like an 1 1/2 inches in dia. or more. The connector described above is more like the size of a quarter dollar or slightly larger.
