Ok guys I need some advice. I'm sure I could call Johnson outboard customer service and get this answer but I have fluid in my current hydraulic motor that may not be the correct kind. So I just bought the boat and the tilt trim isn't working like it should. Its a old 1977 Johnson javelin 85 hp. When I loosen the screw on the hydraulic motor its a reddish color fluid so I was guessing that would be a ATF transmission fluid? Is that correct or is that the color of Johnson's trim tilt fluid? And should I try to pump all of that fluid out and start with a new fluid or pour new fluid on top of current fluid and trim tilt the motor 3 to 5 times hoping thats my problem? I hope what ive wrote makes sense to someone and thanks in advance

you can if you want, its always recommended especially if you have contamination or not sure exactly what is in there. however if you add straight ATF to the ATF in there that would also work.

just dont mix different ATF's. some play nice together...... some do not.

and if you really want to save the fish from a leaky T&T...…... BRP dealers have or had… veggie bio- oil $$$$ which was the recommended oil for my 2005 75hp ETEC

after much discussion I went regular mineral based oil $ in my t&T and it works fine. after a reseal job.
