ok so here is the scoop, i have a mercruiser gm inline 6, and a mercruiser outdrive. (paired from an other boat, but pulled because of hull damage) that i have put on my chaparral, that i had found for a killer deal, i have the motor hooked up for the most part, but i have to replace the bellows inside the outdrive because they are all ripped up. the problem i found is the serial numbers dont match charts i have found online. serial number#1547-2411a14. ill try to uplaod a picture, and maybe some one can help me out please!!!! oh and i have read if it had an eye loop hook on the ( this mine dose) then it could be a mercruiser I?

With the lifting eye and the rounded cav plare, I`d say a MC-1 drive. Basically the same as the Alpha1 and uses manual #6

serial number#1547-2411a14.
That's unusual to find that number as it's not the serial number but it's actually the stern drive part number which doing a search online says to use parts diagram Mercruiser > IA / IB / IC 1964 > 1684188 - 1777798 > Here's iboats parts listing too :encouragement:http://www.iboats.com/IA-IB-IC-1684...218110--session_id.163514482--view_id.1694821

Your U-joint bellows will be item number 36 and the exhaust is 42, DRIVE SHAFT HOUSING ASSEMBLY AND BELL HOUSING ASSEMBLY
While the shift cable bellows is item number 27 Mercruiser part number 74639A2.. BELLOWS, SHIFT ACTUATING CABLE COVERING GIMBAL HOUSING ASSEMBLY AND EXHAUST HOSE

this may help.
on them older mercruisers. the serial number may be stamped into the upper underneath the mercrusier sticker.

the bottom pic is of my '75 mc-1 drive, sn very easy to read.
the top pic is of my '72 mc-1 drive. the sn could not be read. so i'd heard somewhere that the sn may be under the sticker and it was. if ya look close at that photo ya can see it stamped into the upper. that number is under the mercruiser sticket. bummer i had to ruin my sticker to go see the number. but i did get what i wanted. the sn of that drive.

ps, that's the port side sticker on both drives.
