I'd like to ask the group in light of the omc warranty problems are there certain years or sizes of johnrudes that should be avoided. My understanding is that ficht motors of around 99-02 were some of the most problematic. Is this even close? And is there anyone one thing that really was causing the majority of the problems?I ask because of looking at purchasing a boat and motor of that aprox vintage, and If I do are problems easily correctable if they do occur. using the term easily as it applies to most outboards.. :) <br />Thanks again in advance

If it survived this long... It didn't have the "problems" that were so graphically depicted... Still, you should be wary of any used engine/boat that you cannot inspect thoroughly. Go so far as to check the serial number for compliance with known warranty issues. Then look at the engine as critically as you would any other.
