Re-mounting the L/U after water pump surgery, manual says use adhesive OMC ____ (sorry can't remember the name offhand) on the mating surfaces...is there an acceptable substitute - I forgot to get some at the parts dealer the other day and it's a long ways back over there.

I use Mercury Bellows Adhesive, and it seems to work very well. i went to my OMC/Mercury dealer looking for the OMC Adhesive M. They had it but it was over $30 dollars a tube! One of the mechanics came out and told me that the bellows adhesive was basically the same stuff and was less than $10 a tube. I've used it ever since with no problems.

I just used #2 permatex gasket sealer. I called Rockwall Marine and asked them if it was OK and they said no problem.

The correct sealer is called Type M and available thru any dealer.

It is also sold under the Boat Armour brand as Sealer 1000.

It is 3M Scotchgrip type 847 rubber and gasket adhesive and can be ordered thru a 3M products dealer
