Since it looks like the stringer drive is missing, I'm going to go with "a major project".

More to it than just a $600 Alpha 1 drive. What about the Holland Tunnel portal on the transom?

I hope this was a free boat. You know, the most expensive kind. Your buddy has a lot of work ahead.

Should be a Hull Identification plate somewhere on that boat, or he should have got a title or registration with it, right now, it looks like thousands of other driveway projects sitting out there all across America!

Well the good news is that my local landfill would only charge me about $45 to take it off my hands.

Then I'd be left with a trailer, trim tabs, and whatever else I could rob from it before dumping it.

There are a lot of websites out there, that offer HIN databases, that you can plug the HIN number into and should be able to figure it out, if it is not on the title or registration.

I doubt there'll be a HIN on that one ... I'm guessing it's pre-1972 because of the steering arm on back. That's probably an electric shift Stringer on the back. There might be a capacity plate on it up near the helm that'll have a manufacturer name on it thought.

Did he get the rest of the drive? And does the drive work?

My 1968 has HIN on it. I punched into one of the databases and it came back 1968 MirroCraft, just like the factory guy I emailed told me.

Sorry MT, I should have been more clear - I doubt there'll be a HIN on it, because I think it's more likely a Canadian Manufactured boat and because of it's age. Better chance there'll be a serial number on the back. BUT ... there always might be a HIN :)
