Re: What Make & Year Sea King

ntchristian - GG indicates it was made by the Gale division of OMC, the same people who were making Johnsons and Evinrudes at the time. Since there's a lot of parts still being made for Johnson/Evinrude engines, and yours is mechanically identical to them, parts are easily obtained for yours.
GG8836A would be a 1960 Gale built 35hp. You can get a impeller or water pump kit from a Bombardier dealer (Johnny/Rude got sold to them in OMC's bankrupcy), or an aftermarket facsimile from Iboats or NAPA autoparts. Just tell them you have a 1959 35hp Johnson. :)

EDIT: A '59 Johnson may not be the equivalent. I noticed there was a change in the waterpump in '58 which would coincide with the 35hp engine getting a thermostat. If your engine has a thermostat then you want a '59 Johnson waterpump, but if it doesn't then you'll want the '57 Johnson waterpump. The type you have should be plainly visible by either checking to see if there's a thermostat cover plate held onto the head by three screws, or actually remove the pump. The later style pump uses two water tubes rather than one.
Hopefully, someone else will be able to confirm.
