Hi Guys
I have a Mariner 5hp,made in 2000,in Japan, with a serial number of OR 011258.Now i was sold this as a short shaft model.I cannot find it listed anywhere. The measurement i have from top inside of transom clamp to top of cav plate is around 434mm to 447m about 17.5 inches. Now i thought that was a standard shaft.
I have an inflatable dinghy with a transom height, measured top to keel of 15 inches. The Marina i bought engine from says that short and standard are same and will be ok for my boat.Is this right?
Now i am not so sure as i have read that ideally need 1-2 inches only below keel.
Having bought a motor previously that i was informed was short/standard shaft and turned out to be long,i dont want to look a fool again. That mistake, gave the missus far too much enjoyment.
Really confused as i have checked technical spec drawing for that year(2000) and 5hp model on mariner website and short shaft on there, is classed at 447m.
Have also read in current brochure for mariner that short shaft =381mm..so i checked the technical drawing for this year model and guess what ..its 434mm.Weird.
Guys ,basically will this engine fit my boat and operate ok?
I do hope so ,otherwise the missus is goona get far too much enjoyment from my mistake..agine
