hey guys I bought A 1999 Merc 125 Hp outboard around 5 years ago. not sure if it had been winterized when I got it. it's sat in my garage on a stand for around three years and then outside on the boat under a cover for just over another year. in the last few months I hooked it Up and put probably 10 or 15 hours on it. overall it has been running good I replaced the spark plugs cleaned terminals Etc. around a month ago I noticed some gas leaking from the accelerator pump I bought a kit and replaced it. the original diaphragm was pretty badly dry rotted so I am thinking this motor could have had some gas in it while it was sitting. additionally I just noticed a piece of hose off the fuel filter that had cracked at the end and was leaking a little gas I replaced this as well. the rest of the hoses look good as far as I can tell however I am concerned that there may be other other rubber components within the motor that might need my attention. I am an amateur at this and have not done much of this kind of work but am capable. not even sure what to call them but i see what I believe are the four carburetors located just behind the air box all have rubber diaphragms as well, I have included a picture of one of them. should I be looking at replacing these or wait until I notice problems? Thanks in advance for any help James

Change the impeller for sure, if you haven't.

I don't see the pic, James.

ok will do I am assuming this is not particularly complicated however I have never done any work on a lower unit before. Is this something I need to take apart the case for for is it accessible once the product is removed? Also I posted another thread about my serial number sticker being mistakenly removed will my impeller have a part number? I am still trying to find out if there is a second serial on the motor or a way I can look up my original, thanks a lot for the help James

You just need to drop the lower unit, not disassemble it. Usually has about 4-5 screws and it slides out. Impeller is right there and easy to change. Many youtube videos out there that can explain how to do this and all the little things you need to do and watch out for.
