what now! whats this noise?

hi: i have a 35hp merc, 1986- 2Cly. just finished boat re glass / trailer .sat about 5 weeks and fired it up. and what a noise! we all know how our motor should sound and this is one of those times again...sounds like an upper crank bearing? put a piece of wood to my ear . thought i read on a post, about tpy problems with this motor but could not find. should i tear down or run? looked for seal damage, oil ,etc... no movement in crank. just a vibe and noise. is there actually problems with bearings in this model or am i losing my memory? ps. alot of hours, on minor rebuilds of this motor. between my son and i about 1500 .yes ;1500 hrs-- that i know about . bought in 2000 runs fine except-- and good compression. what else can i check prior to tear down. do to its fishin time in south fl.
