hi everyone , we just bought this 1996 merc 115 motor , just wondering what oil to put in the oil tank ? the dealer said to use mercs 2 cycle premium oil , i bought a 4 litre jug for 60.00 , can i just use castrol gtx 2 cycle marine oil ? thanks .
Of course the Merc products will probably be the best you can use, but I've been running Wal-mart brand 2 cycle marine oil for years and never had a problem.
is the Castrol oil rated TCW- 3? or is it TC-W3? If so it meets the spec for use in your engine, granted the spec is around 20 years old. As mentioned before, the Merc products are some of the best made, and that's what I would use
The Merc branded products are not made by Merc, and the price includes premiums to pay for advertising and promotion. They may be very good, but so are other brands that are a lot less expensive.
