What oil to use

I have an 85 Larson with a 170 Mercruiser outdrive. This is basically a four banger engine. I am finally getting the rig ready for whatever summer is left as I have been out of commission for a while. Anyway, simple question - what weight oil should I use in the engine? Thanks

There is the page from the service manual. The answer....

It depends on the ambient temp. your boating in.

I myself have been using SAE 30W oil... you should need about 5?-quarts. I change it every season, and have never had an issue, motor has never blown up and never given any issue due to the oil in it.

just keep an eye on the level, I check it prior to every outing.

I am not even going to mention the brand, it doesn't matter, although I do have brands I like, it's all in our heads.
