Wondering what pitch for the prop I should get. I will be getting an aluminum prop. I'm getting a new 2006 etec evinrude for my Pontoon boat. Empty it weighs 2289lbs. I will be tubing sometimes but mostly just cruising around.

Prop discussions go in the Prop Forum, Bill.

I will move this there for you. :)

I'd be looking at a 13" pitch for water sports or a 15" for general cruising, but best to see if the dealer will let you try one and find your Wide Open Throttle RPM's and go from there. Hard to nail it down without specific info...

2007 Etec 90 op. rng. 4,500 to 5,500 on a Crest 20 ft 2,300 lbs dry.Al.13 3/4 X 13 25 mph at 5,100 rpm,
Premier 24 1980 lbs dry Al.14 X 11 23 mph at 5,600.Its interesting the 20 weighs more than the 24.Also interesting the 11 inch pitch on the lighter but longer boat.I wonder if a 13 on the Premier 24 would have performed closer to the Crest 20s numbers.

Just curious - where are you guys finding these benchmarks? Would be great information for tons of folks, I'm sure. Is it available on the web?

Re: What Pitch for a 90hp on Pontoon?

I am running a 13P with my Nissan 90. On my Vibo 25 footer with 4 adults and 6 kids, I get 4800-5000 RPM and a speed of about 20mph.

I am thinking about going to an 11p to get my RPMs up higher, but unless it gets more efficient (less slip) I will lose top end.

Keep letting that engine run 4800-500 at WOT and you won't have to worry about top-end anymore....your worries will be which new pistons to install.

I just go to the BRP site Thay have many many performance tests all kinds of boat/motor combos 40 hp up.You can usaually find something close to the boat/motor in question.

Where is your rpm & speed with a light load?

I do not have it on the boat yet. The man installing it said that on bass boats they run about 5600 rpm. He said with my weight (2289) it would be less. He wanted to put a 15 pitch. It sounded odd to me. Thats why I'm asking for opinions. It is a 24ft Fisher Pontoon 1995. I checked the BRP site but did not see these kind of test on there. What drop down line do I look under?

BRP site? I'm lost. I went to BRP USA and couldn't find anything. Do you have a link?

At 5000 I am just at the bottom of the specified RPM range. This spring I am going to look at moving the motor up a notch as i think it is too deep, do a carb cleaning, and pop an 11 on there to get into a more comfortable range.

As for what it does unloaded, I am not sure. It does fly though easily surpassing the 5K mark. If only I could convince all those people to stay at the dock..

I'm thinking 15 is too much but if they let you try props till it's right you could start there.
Keep in mind you want your rpm so it is within upper range with your typical load.
Vertical height is tricky on a toon it may take some fiddling to get it right.I lean toward a setting with occasional minor venting.

For BRP use google; put in ETEC outboard.Click "Evinrude etec promo"click on any motor then put cursor on motors and click on your hp package then click on specific hp.You'll see
basic description with tabs above.click on performance reports.

I'm with steelspike..a 15 will be too much...13 may be close, but you want to prop for the top of your range with the normal load.
