I recently bought a 1996 Procraft V-150B with a 90 hp mercury (I bought the boat used). The boat tops out at 42 mph, on GPS, with a 21 pitch prop. It is a little sluggish out of the hole, but i feel like it should be a little faster than it is. Does anyone have any suggestions as to why I'm only running 42 mph, or any prop suggestions?

IF the engine is running at 5500 RPM at wide open throttle, then your speed is spot on (41.8 mph according to the prop calculator) and assuming about a 12% slip. A vented prop would help hole shot and not affect top end. Making sure the engine is tuned properly is also a necessity before looking at props. If the engine isn/t making full power a different prop simply masks the problem. Make sure the trottles are opening all the way as well.
