So I just got a new boat and it needs a replacement prop. The current prop was damaged when I bought it so I don't really know it it is the right prop either... The boat is a 2005 VIP 184 (2300 lbs). It has a 2005 3.0L mercruiser in it. Typical load will be four adults and a couple 5 year olds. We will be doing some tubing and wake boarding. I'm looking for a low cost aluminum prop. What size and pitch do I need?

Thanks,

With that typical load, I'd recommend a 14.5 X 19 Quicksilver or Solas prop in aluminum.

I understand that WOT is 4200-4600 for this engine with that load and this prop what would you expect my speed to be at around 4200? 35mph?

Prop calculator using 2.00 gear ratio, and guessing 12% slip speed is about 33. Slip can vary widely depending on rpm, load, prop technology and hull shape.
Ideal cruising speed can be from just on plane to up to about 1000 rpm higher.
It's possible that it may over rev with a light load and a 19" prop.

So do you suggest a 14.5 X 20? I don't really know much about props.

Your current prop size should be near the base of the blades or under the prop nut.
The 19" prop suggested will do well for your load and activities.
With a light load just be aware of the rpm and throttle back a little to avoid the over rev.
An occasional accidental over rev won't hurt anything.
Test the 19 with a light load,it may not over rev any way.
