I am going on Thursday to pick up my boat from the dealer. I posted earlier, im getting a 2011 Weeres cadet 200 cruise, with a 75 mercury 4-stroke. My dealer said he will give me any prop I want, but suggested a 13 or 15 ( pitch...i think is the right term) what do you guys think? Its 20 feet, 75 hp, I dont know much so educate me. The weight will be the weight of the boat about 1700pds, and me 190pds, wife 120 pds, and three little kids less than 150pds between them and say 150 pds in gear. Any ideas on the correct prop? Also if I opt to buy a stainless steel prop, what would be the correct one to purchase? Note I am buying this boat 6 hours from my home, so getting the correct propeller up front is paramount.

Thank you for your time.

Re: what prop to get?

Your dealer should contact the manufacturer, and mercury. They should tell him what is the correct prop for your setup. It is his responsibility to get it right. Surely Weeres has built more than one Cadet 200 Cruise with a Merc 75 set up on it......

The 15" pitch will be too much. I would go with the 13 if I had to chose.

Personally I would be looking at a 13 pitch in a four blade aluminum as a general guide line. The prop should be matched to the motors max rpm so weeres should be helpful there. I also agree that the dealer should have it set up so the prop reaches the boats full rpm potential.

I agree that 15 will probably be too much. I would start with the 13.

We just traded in a 2008 20' Starcraft with a 75 Merc. 4-S. I realize that this is a different boat however, we had a 13".

The 13" allowed the engine to go to full max. RPM. Which is what you want.

I can't stress enough that the dealer should be doing this for you.

+1 for the 13, and +1 for the dealer should be telling you, and if what he gives you doesn't work right he should swap it out via UPS or US Mail.

Max (or close to max) recommended rpm at wide open throttle is what you need to see to know you are propped correctly.

Re: what prop to get?

just to clarify, the dealer is doing his part, he said he will look at his notes and put the correct prop. on, he just didnt know off hand if it was 13 or 15, when I called. I was mainly asking, so if he said you need( X) prop, and you all told me that I shuold get ( Y), then I would have some material to fight with. Im sure he will get it right.

thanks!

I agree a 13 degree pitch should be about right. Now if you add more weight via fuel, cargo or passengers then of course everything changes. I tried a 11 degree all the way up to a 15 degree and now I have two props depending on what I'm doing, pulling a tube with lots of people or just riding with two to 4 adults.

Re: what prop to get?

So i picked up the boat today, wahoo!! took 12 hours of driving, but its over now. on the prop. The dealer said that with the weight of the boat 12 gallons of fuel, the motor ( 75 hp merc. 4 stroke ) and three adults and three kids and gear he paired it with a 15. He also said if the RPM's dont hit 6000 WOT then to let him know and he will mail me a different one for free. He said the 75 hp merc is a bit heavy, as its the same motor as a 90 and a 115hp, just different electronics on each motor, same CC's/displacement etc. he was confident 15 was right, but is not afraid to switch out props, and said I should break the motor in to manufacturer recommendations and then check RPM's. Sound correct??

Thanks

Graham

Sounds like he knows his product, is thinking your situation through, and is taking care of you. Thumbs up for your dealer.

That big motor detuned to 75 HP should last about 50 years.

Welcome to the pontoon world and enjoy.
