Re: what prop?

The Max recommended RPM of that engine is what???
I know some were 5100, but the newer ones with the Merc powerhead were higher I belive.
What year is your engine??...Let's figure out what your max RPM should be before we jump at a prop.

Re: what prop?

Hummm...a 98 is a merc powerhead..I thought that was a 5500 RPM engine..
Anyway, if you're hitting top R's and the boat seems to perform well, what part seems to be missing???
At 5250 with a 24P, you should be 50-52+MPH...
If you're well below that, maybe we have a tach issue..???

Re: what prop?

i dont feel the pull from the motor.acts like something is slipping i checked the hub not slipping.the sticker on the back of the motor says max rpm's 5250.everyone says the prop is to big.they running a 18 pitch prop on my boat that really winds up the rpm way to many.maybe the prop is oaky i was looking for somone with a boat simmular to mine maybe they can tell what prop to use.

Re: what prop?

2 identicle boats with the same engine and props, and 1 will walk away from the other everytime.
You may need to have your tach checked....maybe it's set wrong or is not reading properly.
I ran a 17ft Nitro with a Johnson eagle 115 and a 13.5X20 Raker @6000RPM showing about 55MPH on Cheney reservoir.

Re: what prop?

Most boat dealers/shops can verify if your tach is in the ballpark..
Know anything about Mercruiser???
My brother-in-law needs his winterized and I didn't make it to wichita in time...
Never been to prop doc....I use a shop in Denver that is run by a family my father was associated with in their boat racing days...

no i dont know anything about mercruiser sorry i don't think winterizing would be very hard but i dont know how to get all the water out. i think there's water drains on the motor.maybe blow the water out if he has a air compressor.look on the Internet i sure theres something to tell how to winterize that boat.
