Hey everyone! Just curious as to what is your favorite style of fishing?

Mine is Spinnerbaits for Largemouth Bass. I pitch them, cast them, and troll them. I use them in all types of ways. I don?t know why but they are my favorite bait and style of fishing for bass. Spinnerbaits are a very versatile way of catching fish.

How about you?

Re: What?s Your Favorite Style?

I have two favorites, Joseph.

For peaceful contemplation I favor fly and popping bug casting for bass and bluegills from a canoe on a still, lilypad covered southern pond. . . in May or June when the dogwood are blooming in the pineywoods . . .at dawn and dusk. . .ahhhhhh

OH! excuse me. Got a little lost in reverie there. :)

For raw adventure it would be casting bucktail spinners for musky on Lake Of The Woods, Ont. in late June on a rainy, blustery day. "Take no prisoners!" means catch and release on less adrenalin saturated days. :)

But mostly I favor "styles" tailored to the location, the species available and the company, if any.

Thanks for asking. I have reached that age when dreams and fantasies are replaced by fond memories. It is good to have such wonderful memories. :)

Re: What?s Your Favorite Style?

I guess the "dinkin and dunkin" on lighter (6-8lb Stren) line is my favorite style, if its considered a style. LOL Seems to be the most relaxing to me.

Ive had a hard time getting away from leadheads with 3 inch grubs on those small spinnerbait frames you can get at Wally World. You can rig up a handfull for under $5 too, which is very cool if you happen to lose one. Pumpkin or smoke colors have been very consistant, and this set up has been my go-to lure when its slow or new territory. Changing colors is just a matter of clipping on a different grubhead and/or color grub, if you dont happen to have a ton already made up. I am usually in the hunt for smallies and this set-up is very productive for them, but Ive caught alot of other fish with the grub/spinner as well.

I also use skirted spinnerbaits some, maybe when the waters a tad deeper. The grub is lethal in the shallows on lighter line.

A man after my own heart.
As you can see by my screen name, spinnerbaits are the ticket.
Love to throw them around downed logs/trees.
Also like to slow roll them across some rif raf and rocky points.
My back up are P61 and P65 Pop-Rs.

I love top water lure. I just throw my 13G floating Rapala up near shore, at docks, trees, rocks, or any structure and let it sit for 10 - 20 seconds.
Then I "twitch" it back doing the old "wounded minnow" imitation.
I've caught Bass, Pike ,Walleye, Cats, Panfish, all kinds this way.
We call it Rappin, it works best at dawn or dusk.

I also like jig fishing drop off during the day.

Ahh the slow roll.... one of the best dance moves of the Spinnerbaits... gotta love them.

What type do you use? or do you build your own... I used to build my own and used to use secrete weapons lures Spinnerbaits but now I have switched to the longshank. What do you like?

Strike King are what I use, from the 1/2Oz to the 3/4Oz.
White/Chartruce is my all time favorite.
That with 2 big blades(not willow leaf), silver/gold.

see I like the 3/8 and the 1/2 some times i got for the 3/4... but whit and chartruce is my all tiem favorite as well. Strike kinds are ok, but I just don;t like having to use a trailer hook... limits where I can fish the spinnerbaits... So thats why i switched to the longshank can fish em where I want.. Also I like the tandom blades or the double willow silver/gold as well..

Never had any problems with the strike kings as far as short strikes go.

That's good... Maybe I was just too quick to set the hooks before. but I always had short strikes... Or maybe my baits were not tuned just right. but what ever the case I don;t have the issue any more... Even catch them on the nose and on the outside of the lip sometimes... lol what ever works...

but what ever the case I love to pitch spinnerbiats... Works like a charmm.. they pitch jigs I pitch spinnerbaits. lol

I love my rooster tails, but as Spinner said I keep my top water baits ready for backup, mainly a jitter bug or pop R, or sometimes a buzz bait. I go for the bass but I also like to crappie fish, been a while since I fished for stripers. There's nothing like having a bass hit that top water lure though.

My favorite is finesse fishing, soft jigs are my favorite. Nothing beats the feeling of fishing some deep structure with a jig and you feel that tap, then you know the game is on. I also enjoy top water . Nothing like working a spook across a shallow point and then ((WHAMMO)), the lure is inhaled.

Re: What?s Your Favorite Style?

Mepps or Roostertails are pretty productive as well, and when slow rolled like a spinnerbait they can be very usefull.
I try to use 4 poles rigged with different lures, and as I drift into different areas I can grab which one the terrain dictates. Commonly I will go with this arsenal when out in the boat by myself,

- 4'6" Shakespeare Microspin with Shimano Syncopate 2000 spooled with 6lb Stren lo-vis green, baited with a leadhead and 3" pumpkinseed grub on a small spinnerbait frame.

- 5'6" Abu Garcia Conolon Premier with Shimano Spirex 2000 FD spooled with 8lb Stren lo-vis green, baited with a medium/small white spinnerbait or copper Mepp.

- 5'6" Ugly Stik Lite Pro with Shimano Solstace 2500RH spooled with 10lb Stren lo-vis green, baited with either a spinnerbait (brown/gold/chartreuse) homemade skirt or a shallow diving Bomber crank.

- 6' Rapala Sportsman Classic with Shimano Solstace 2500RH spooled with 10lb Stren lo-vis green, baited with a Storm deep diving crank or chrome RatlTrap.

There are other combos and lures that I also use, but these 4 are usually my mainstay for a productive day. The lake I frequent is 2500 acres with a max depth of 43ft and a Eutrophic one with plenty of algea bloom and plant life, with green/brown tinted water with a ton of rocky humps and islands to pick from. Surprisingly it is very underfished, so the fish feel hardly any pressure. This makes for some intense bass fishing, but Im usually hunting for smallies when Im out there.

Geez Im addicted to fishing........;)

Sitting in the ice shack hunting brownies and waiting for a flag to go up is all I got right now though. Cant wait till open water, Im gonna rearrange my tackle boxes now and daydream.......

Lead lining with live bait at 95 feet for lakers or trolling anywhere between 50 and 200 feet down for salmon with big castmaster spoons.Yah baby only on lake Ontario.
Or wire lining at 45 feet down for stripers with 6 ounce bucktails on racepoint or billings gate island.
After salmon, bass seem awfully tame....

Re: What?s Your Favorite Style?

Well Ive been shore fishing as this is the first boat ive owned, and she hasnt touched water under my command yet.

The Ottawa river is very difficult terrain for fishing. Half of it is beach, the other half is a rock. Lots of rock. Tons of rock. Petawawa is the meeting point of a major river and a smaller river with rapids.

When in the rocks, I tend to stick with floating baits.. Like the bomber long "A"'s, or some of the rapala floating. If it dives, it needs to have very little drop, or else it aint comin back. Some of the inlets are perfect for hula poppers, or spinnerbait. You'll find tons of smallies, rock bass, and the occasional pike looking for an easy ticket. I use your normal cast and retrieve, with a few jerks here and there. Or if im feeling like just relaxing, Ill throw on the classic worm and bobber.

From the shores of petawawa's beaches, the best method I have found is to put 4-5 split shot, 1 foot from the hook. load 'er up with worms. Cast it out, let it sink. Take up the tension so the line is no longer slack. Then wait.

Guarunteed, a bass, steurgeon, or cat will come by and scoop it up. Ive used a few spoons like the little cleo's 3/8's and had marginal sucess.

Now on the water, musky lurk, as well as larger pike, and the odd garpike. I cant comment on those, as I have never caught one. I have seen fishermen come out of the water with these. But there is no guaruntee as to how far they go on the river to get these critters.
