What should I hook the tach to?

I have a 1963 Merc 1000 inline six. Can ayone tell me what to hook the tach to? Some say rectifyer at one of the stator leads - others say coil on the positive side. I have two coils. Anyone? Thanks, Dave

If you use the diagram in the Teleflex instructions your tach will not work. Why? Because the diagram is wrong. They show 12-16 volts on the "S" (sense) line and the "Sense" line connected to the +12V terminal. Those two wires need to be swapped and Teleflex has indicated they are now aware of the issue.
