I got a tune up kit for the engine and I wanted to know what point gap for the distributor I should use? I think I saw someone said to use .019, is that correct?

Merc manual 4 list gap at 0.22 and Dwell 28 - 34 degrees

Being a GM motor it should be the same for OMC

Do I have to use a dwell meter or can I just use feeler gauges?

No, the dwell meter is used to make sure you actually got the points set correctly. If your off a bit, it just may not run as well

OMC was .018-.022 IIRC, dwell was 30 degrees

Wonder what is harder to hit, the .18 to .22 or the exact 30 dwell angle

Did some looking around and I'm finding the OMC gap with different variations, where did you find your 18 to 22 ?

86 3.0L point gap is listed at .019" new and .016" used per OMC manual (sterndrive, non-cobra). Dwell is 31*-34*. I have almost the same motor (302FTHRCOM) in my 86 Sunray and couldn't find an 85 manual so I just bought an 86 on eBay.

from my memory, however I could be wrong. I sold the manual with the boat 10 years ago
