What Size Bolt for Engine Stand

Will soon be pulling my MMC 7.4L, 454 big block (Gen V, 1994). I want to be prepared to put it on my engine stand. My Mercruiser engine documentation does not tell me what size bolt I'll need to connect my stand to the engine. Does anyone out there know what diameter bolt I'll need to have on hand?

3/8-16, grade 8, length depends on the stand, but you will want about an inch going into the block.

The biggest size that will fit through the back of the block. Small blocks are bolted to trannys with 3/8". I'm thinking big blocks bolt to the same trannys, so 3/8" Isn't the block tapped?

Don't forget to use grade 8 washers as well. There is a pick on the net somewhere where the head of the bolt pulled clear through an el-cheapo washer and his engine (big block chevy) wound up on the floor...

OK, looks like the consensus is grade 8, 3/8" bolts that are one inch longer than the ears on my engine stand as well as grade 8 washers.

Thanks!:)
