The FSM says the bolts on the connecting rod caps for my 1993 Force 150 use Special Tool # FT-2953. It's a 12-point socket that appears to be about 1/4" or 7mm. Does anyone know the size of this socket?

An old thread here said it's 1/4". Can anyone confirm?

HotTommy, I have no idea but I am assuming it probably is a thin wall to get into the area. Try a few from your socket collection and see what seems to fit. Obviously all six points are out. What does the manual state? JMHO :noidea:

The FSM says what I noted above. I bought a 12-pt 1/4" socket and it does fit. The wall on mine was a little fat so I took it down just a little with my belt sander. It works now.

It is a 1/4 in 12 point bolt.
You may have to use an adapter 1/4-3/8 for the wrench.
1/4 will be to weak when loosing and tighting.

Remember using locking fluid and torque to right value when assebling.

Yeah, they were in plenty tight. And the factory locking fluid caused the bolts to stick inside the caps even after they were unscrewed from the rod. That made getting the caps out a bit of a pain. But three of four pistons are out now. Now I just need to find those two missing bearings.

Life is good. All four pistons are out and all 64 bearings are accounted for.

Reassemble with "bearing assembly grease
It melts quicker.
If you use regular grease it can cause the bearings to get hot and burn.
Also don't use a magnet for prolonged times.
It can slightly magnetize the bearings and any shavings can get drawn in and cause damage.
