What spark plug wire goes where?

Volvo Penta 230 - 1993 stern drive Excel - replacing wires and did not remove one at a time and goofed up. I do not know what wire goes where from the distributor to the spark plugs. I know the firing order is 1-3-4-2. I still have the wires attached to the distributor. I have two long wires and two short wires. I have the owners Manual and can find nothing in there to guide me. Which one is 1-3-4-2? Which wire goes where? Help....

I bet the long wires go furthest away from the distributor, would that be a clue?

If you can get the motor turned so that you have #1 cylinder at TDC on the compression stroke, The rotor in the dist should be pointing toward the #1 plug wire. After that as you go clockwise around the cap, the next wire would be #3, etc.
