Model 55875 is a 1978 55hp Evinrude, not a Johnson. Use Champion QL77JC4 plugs gapped at .040 .

Really?! it must just have a johnson cover.
This engine has no spark at both coils, what is most likely to be at fault...stator or cd2 unit? is there a common fault with these motors?

i had same trouble with a mariner 50 and it turned out to be the stator.

thanks a lot for your help

Remove spark plugs, disconnect Red electrical plug at engine, craank engine by jumping solenoid. If you now have spark, replace ignition switch. Let us know what you fiind.
