What steering system to use with my mark 55A

I am building a 12 ft. plywood runabout. I have a 1959 Mercury Mark 55A. I do not have a steering wheel or steering system but I am wondering what system would be best for me to steer.
I am using plans to build the boat from a 1956 boat builder's handbook. the handbook recommends using a pulley system set up but I would like to use something low maintenance and with less parts.

1. should I use a teleflex or a used ride guide system.

2. What motor connection should I use with the steering cables.

If your motor has a place to screw in the cable I would go with the teleflex rotary systems it worked fine for me. Not the best pic but you can see the way the link goes back to the engine.

If it won't fit onto the engine you may need one of these.

I'm rebuilding a 10" hydroplane. I would like to do away with the drum and cable steering and use a rotary system.
