Hello Everyone:<br /> I have a 1968 Mercury 50 h.p. 4 cylinder 2 cycle outboard. I have written here once before to ask questions when the engine was still just a bunch of parts. Good news is that the engine is a engine again but the bad news is that i am having some difficulty timing the distributor with the crank. First off i guess i should explain that the distributor runs off of a belt that comes from the flywheel. The tech manual says to just align the timing marks on the flywheel to the marks on the pulley for the distributor but unfortunately i am not able to find the marks they are speaking of on the flywheel. There is a tick mark on the very side of the wheel and then there is a small spot of paint on the top of the flywheel. Don't know if either of them are what i am looking for. Does anyone out there have a fool-proof way of timing this thing right the first time. Thanks for all the help and i hope everyone has a great season.
