I'm thinking I have an electrical issue, but I'm very new to boats so not sure what to look for exactly.

I have a boat with a console and electric start. I also have a 40HP Force. l used the boat once last week and then figured I'd install new spark plugs. So, I did that on Friday. I went to start the motor up with muffs in the driveway and nothing happened. I hooked up the battery charger to the starting battery and let it charge for a bit and then it started up as usual. I waited about a half hour and went to start it again after tinkering with the plugs and again it wouldn't start up. So, I charged the battery again and then it started. I took it out to the lake that afternoon and it worked just fine.

Fast forward to today. I figured I needed a new starting battery so I bought one and installed it. Figuring my problems were solved, I started it up with the muffs in the driveway and it worked just fine. So, I drive out to the lake, launch the boat and start the motor. I wanted to adjust use the power trim to lower the motor a little bit and it worked for about a second then stopped working. Fortunately I was still in very shallow water so I jumped out and beached the boat. I tried to start the motor and nothing happened. I load the boat back up after messing with it and go to use the power tilt to lift the motor up and it works for a second and then stops again. So I leave it like it is and then drive home.

I get home and try the power trim again to raise the motor and it works just fine. I raise it the entire way up, then back down, then back up again and put the transom lock on.

Can anyone tell me what the heck is going on with my boat and what I should check out?

Sounds like a loose connection. Clean all the battery connections to begin with. Shiny and tight.

Ok, so I checked the battery connections and they are tight and clean. A little more info as I think I'm narrowing down the problem to between the battery and ignition. When I do have power, the dash gauges light up and when I don't, the dash gauges don't light up. The battery cables go into the engine compartment. I messed around with them a little it, but there are just a ton of wires. Also,I figured out that the fish finder, live well pump, and bilge pump are all running off of this battery. I have repeatedly checked and all are in the off position and not running. These items don't work either when power goes down so I figure it has to be a problem in a main line somewhere that feeds power to all of these items. I just cannot figure out yet what to look for?
