Well being new to starcraft boats. I would like to know what to expect in heavy weather as here in the Bras D'or Lakes it can get rough fast. My Chieftan seems to be a little narrow and thus rolls easy . And imput is helpful. Thanks, Donnie;):D

Wish I could help you neighbor. Although I'm restoring one I've never ridden in one. Not many around here still alive.

Some day I'll make up that area to do some fishing.

Re: What to expect

We have some members in the PNW that have had theirs in some serious weather. I've been out a couple time on my buddy's 21' Chieftain outboard and it certainly seemed pretty stout. The good amount of freeboard and the large splashwell are nice.

Re: What to expect

My Islander is the same hull - it's very light (relatively speaking) and sits up way high so wind is going to be your enemy if you get sideways to it. Stay perpendicular to the waves. This applies to any boat really, but more so with these boats.

I haven't had it out in rough weather, but last week I purposely took it into some heavy wakes left by wakeboarding boats and as long as I hit 'em at or near 90 degrees I sliced right through no problem.
