i am rebuilding a 235 johnson and was wondering what calssifies new pistons and boring the block, my block walls look great and my pictons look good except for some stuck rings which i can free up and some dark spots. there is only one piston that has some sort of "chaffing" on the top heres a picture. Is this piston good to use still? everything in my engine looked good i just wanted to clean it all up and clean all the water ways as they were all corroded. all the bearings look good, along with the rods and block. i had to destroy the rear exhaust cover that is closest to the block to get it off, and boy was it nasty in there..

Did you take a compression test before you tore it down? And????

The need for boring and pistons can be determined by measuring the bore and the pistons against the specs for your engine. This is best done by a marine machine shop.

What caused you to tear into it?
