Underneath my bass boat theres a spot on the keel where the gelcoat is off and its down to the wood,i was wondering if i could throw some of that marine silicone in there and smooth it out and would this fix the problem or could the hole get bigger?i need some advice on what to do thanks.

Gelcoat is not used on wood. Gelcoat is ontop of fiberglass.

Is it a wood boat or a fiberglass boat?

Do not use silicone on a boat.

Try to use marinetex putty to seal up that spot and that stuff is tough as nails as long as it is applied properly to a dry surface.

Got any pictures of the damage?

the boat is fiberglass so i guess thats what its is too,i dont have any pics, its not all the way through the hull, its no bigger than 2 inches,i just took it to the mechanic for carb work and he was saying dont take it out like that because it could seperate but where do i get the stuff to patch it up,is it pretty easy to do it yourself?

I second the marine tex. Search the iboats store, instructions in the box are straight forward.

If its as bad as you say, then Marine Tex won't cut it, you need to re-glass that area.
