Re: What type of engine is this?

whoa whoa whoa... I would keep looking... seems like some backwoods engineering is going on there - I can't even wrap my head around the picture you posted... what has this guy done? Outboard put inboard?

The cobra drive on the right side of the picture doesn't look like it is hooked to anything... almost looks like he piled the parts in the back of the boat and took a picture.. but that is not a power plant you will be able to use...

Plus, that stringer there is aftermarket, and doesn't look sealed... (if that picture is actually in the boat)

If I was you, if you are even really interested in this boat.. I would see it in person.. make sure to come back and tell us...

Run away fast.

Looks like one of those garbage Merc L drives with an Force outboard powerhead. You don't even want involved with that POS. No parts, the boat is built for that only, so changing to some other motor is completely out of the question.

They were junk from day one and only lasted a few years and are gone.

Thanks for all the replies.Almost wasted $800 for nothing thanks to you guys. Can the motor and drive be changed to an alpha 1 gen 1 outdrive and mercruiser engine combination or will that not work either? Is the whole in the transom the same or in a different location?

Like I said before:

The whole engine compartment, stringers, transom, hull, is different from a regular IO.

If the boat itself was in absolutely NEW condition, it wouldn't be worth $800, nor the effort and expense to put anything else in it.

Re: What type of engine is this?

89-94 was the only years the L drive was manufactured, what years Bayliner used them I don't know, but there are also a lot of Bayliners in those years that doesn't use the L-drive.
You just want to stay away from anything with a 2 stroke inboard engines.
There were other boat manufactures that tried them, just know what you are buying before you buy.
