I looked at leroys ramblings and searched online I'm not sure what gear lube to use for my 1972 6hp johnson.

I have a bottle of evinrude hi vis gear lube that reads dont use hi vis gearlube for electric shifts such as johnson/evinrude 1962-1972.

I'm not quite sure what that means but for older electric shifts it recommends "premium blend gear case lube" is that what I shoud be useing? do I have "electricic shift" on this motor?

edit:
if this is what I need, is "type c" the same thing and can I buy sierra type c gear lube alt west marine?

Your engine is a standard mechanical shift model.... Use only "Hi-Vis" gearlube.

I had a 72 esl 50 hp which had solenoids for shifting. It needed a special lube. More like a hydraulic fluid and gear lube mix. Sorry forgot the name.
